Chrism Mass – July 28

In the past, the Chrism Mass has been a grand liturgy celebrating priestly fraternity, the Archdiocese, and the whole Catholic community.  As with many burdens of the pandemic, elevating these aspects of the celebration would not be prudent.

The Chrism Mass is going to be simple, i.e. few ministers, no music, no renewal of priestly promises.  In fact, traveling to attend the Chrism Mass is not to be encouraged.  A representative from each deanery is to attend, and be responsible for distributing the holy oils to the different parishes.  The Mass will be live-streamed at www.dbqarch.org/live-broadcasts on July 28 at 1:00 PM.

We continue to pray for the opportunity to soon offer—with prudence—a more complete expression of the Most Sacred Liturgy, for the end of the pandemic, and for the intentions of those adversely affected.
