December 17 – Advent and Christmas Eve Schedule
A word about the FOURTH Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve Schedules (which is this coming weekend):
Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, falls on a Sunday this year. Thus, Christmas Eve services count for Christmas but don’t fulfill the Sunday obligation because it is a Christmas Mass, not a Sunday Mass (a bit confusing, I know).
Thus, in an attempt to accommodate this, and space things out accordingly, here is the plan:
Masses for Fourth Sunday of Advent will NOT be on Sunday morning, but will instead be on Sat., Dec. 23 at 5:30 p.m. (in both parishes).
- St. Mary’s Ackley: Saturday, Dec. 23 at 5:30 p.m. NOTE: this Mass will be in English, not Spanish, though we will have a reading in Spanish to help accommodate our Spanish Mass attendees.
- St. Patrick’s Hampton: Saturday, Dec. 23 at 5:30 p.m. (Bilingual)
Then, there will be NO MORNING Mass on Sunday, Dec. 24 in our parishes. If you are in need of a Sunday morning Mass, there will be morning Mass at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart in Rockwell; 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family in Mason City; or 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s in Eldora.
Christmas Eve Mass on Sun. Dec. 24 will be as follows:
- 4 p.m. – Ackley
- 4 p.m. – Hampton (English)
- 5:30 p.m. – Hampton (Spanish)
- Midnight Mass – Midnight in Ackley
Mass on Monday, Dec. 25 – Christmas Day
- 8:30 a.m. – Christmas Day in Hampton
