As Advent is a season of awaiting the birth of Christ, Mary, as His chosen Mother, is intimately bound up in this season, as she carried Him in her womb. To enter more deeply in this season, The Church encourages us to reflect in various ways on the mystery of God’s work in and through the Blessed Virgin Mary.
1) First of all this is a season where we are particularly encouraged to focus on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary (especially the first two Joyful Mysteries of Annunciation and the Visitation).
2) Advent Marian Prayer – While many Marian prayers, the “Alma Redemptoris Mater” prayer has been traditionally prayed in Advent:
“Loving Mother of the Redeemer, gate of heaven, star of the sea, assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again. To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator, yet remained a virgin after as before. You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting, have pity on us poor sinners.”
3) The Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8) – On December 8, we celebrate the Immaculate Conception, which is about Mary being conceived in the womb free from Original Sin, as she was to be the consecrated vessel to carry Christ in her womb, and to be the new mother of all humanity, the “New Eve.” While this teaching has existed and been believed from the very early centuries of Christianity, it was formally affirmed in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. This was then affirmed by Mary herself when she appeared in 1858 to St. Bernadette in Lourdes and said, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” And speaking of Marian Apparitions…
4) Our Lady of Guadalupe (Dec. 12) – Mary has continued to remain an intimate part of Christ’s saving work and an instrument of proclaiming his Gospel throughout history. One example is Mary’s miraculous apparition at Guadalupe, in Mexico, which led to thousands of conversions to Christ! And this major and beautiful celebration is especially significant for our Mexican brothers and sisters. And it’s beautiful that this celebration usually falls on or near “Gaudete (Rejoice!) Sunday,” as we light the “rose-colored” candle and we celebrate Guadalupe with roses.
To celebrate these mysteries of Mary, a reminder that we have some special celebrations this week
For the Immaculate Conception (which is a Holy Day of Obligation), Masses will be: Monday 12/8/25

- Monday Dec. 8 – 7:00 PM Hampton (BILINGUAL)
Then for Our Lady of Guadalupe which, while primarily in Spanish, we will have resources for English-speakers to come and join us for the celebration.
Celebrations for this will all be at St. Patrick’s on Friday Dec. 12 at Hampton and will include:
- 5:00am – Mañanitas (Songs in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe)
- Coffee and Treats following
- 5:30pm – Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe
- Meal and more celebration to follow!

7 de diciembre – María en Adviento
Como Adviento es un período de espera por el nacimiento de Cristo, María, como Su Madre escogida, está íntimamente ligada a esta temporada; ya que, fue ella quien lo llevó en su vientre. Para entrar más profundamente en esta temporada, la Iglesia nos anima a reflexionar de varias maneras en el misterio de las Obras de Dios y por medio de la Santísima Virgen María
1) Primero que todo, esta es una temporada donde se nos anima a enfocarnos particularmente en los Misterios Gozosos del Rosario – especialmente en los dos primeros, la Anunciación y la Visitación.
2) Oración Mariana de Adviento – Aunque existen muchas oraciones Marianas, el “Alma Redemptoris Mater” es una oración que se ha rezado tradicionalmente durante Adviento:
“Madre del Redentor, virgen fecunda, puerta del cielo siempre abierta, estrella del mar, ven a librar al pueblo que tropieza y se quiere levantar. Ante la admiración de cielo y tierra, engendraste a tu santo Creador, y permaneces siempre Virgen. Recibe el saludo del ángel Gabriel, y ten piedad de nosotros, pecadores”.
3) Inmaculada Concepción, 8 de dic. – El 8 de diciembre, vamos a celebrar a la Inmaculada Concepción, que es sobre María siendo concebida en el útero libre del Pecado Original, como el vaso consagrado que llevaría a Cristo en su vientre, y a ser la nueva madre de toda la humanidad, la “Nueva Eva”. Si bien esta enseñanza ha existido y se ha creído desde los primeros siglos del cristianismo, fue formalmente afirmada en 1854 por el papa Pío IX. Y así lo afirmó entonces la propia María, cuando se le apareció en 1858 a Santa Bernardita en Lourdes, y le dijo, “Soy la Inmaculada Concepción”. Y hablando de Apariciones Marianas …
4) Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, 12 de dic. – María ha continuado siendo una parte íntima de la obra salvadora de Cristo y un instrumento de proclamación de su Evangelio a través de la historia. Un ejemplo de esto es la aparición milagrosa de María en Guadalupe, México, ¡que llevó a miles de conversiones a Cristo! Y esta gran y hermosa celebración es especialmente significativa para nuestras hermanas y hermanos mexicanos. Y es hermoso que esta celebración regularmente cae el mismo día o alrededor del “Domingo de Gaudete (¡Regocijo!)”, mientras iluminamos la vela de “color rosa”, y celebramos a Guadalupe con rosas.
A celebrar estos misterios de la Virgen María, tenemos celebraciones especiales esta semana. Por la Inmaculada Concepción que es un día de obligación tenemos la misas en Lunes, 8 de diciembre

- Lunes Dec. 8 – 7:00 PM Hampton (BILINGUAL)
Esta semana celebraremos a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe que, aunque es principalmente en español, tendremos recursos para que los anglo-parlantes se unan a la festividad. Estas celebraciones serán en San Patricio, Hampton, el viernes 12 de diciembre e incluirá:
- 5 a.m. Mañanitas (Canciones en honor de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe)
o Seguido de café y golosinas
- 5:30 p.m. Misa para Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe
o Le sigue ¡comida y más celebración!
